We were discussing what we should check out next. The Echo earbuds came up. I mean we already have the Echo Microwave, Echo Dot(s), Echo Show, Echo Auto(s), etc. why not add the earbuds to our collection. So we did. One week out on the market. Are the Echo Buds dope tech or not at all?
What’s in the Box?
The following items are included in the box:
- Amazon Echo Buds
- Charging Case
- Micro USB Power Cable
- 3 Sizes of Ear Tips and Wings
Let’s first get the specs out of the way. These earbuds have up to 5 hours of usage on one single charge. This includes up to 20 hours with charging case. You gain 2 hours of usage with a 15 minute charge. The earbuds are IPX4 which is water resistant and not waterproof. Customize your double tap feature to wake up Siri or Google Assistant with compatible devices. As we all know and love about the Buds, it includes the Bose active noise reduction technology.
To Setup the Echo Buds
- Enable Bluetooth on your device.
- Open the lid to the Echo earbuds. Then press the button on the bottom of the case for 3 seconds. Make sure the light is flashing blue.
- Now place the earbuds into your ears.
- Open up the Alexa app and click on devices.
- From there tap on the + and then Add device to add the Echo earbuds.
- Select Amazon Echo and then Echo buds. Approve the pairing if prompted.
- Next, follow the steps on the screen. Once completed you are now ready to use your earbuds.
Might we reiterate the Echo earbuds have active noise reduction a Bose technology. With that being said, we put it to the test. I stepped into the server room. For those of you who’s never stepped into a server room it can be noisy due to the fans. To put it into perspective, just imagine a bunch of hair dryers going at once but a little less noisy. I placed two calls for testing. My first call the recipient stated when I was quiet she heard no noise at all. It sounded clear. She continued to explain that when I spoke she heard the fan noises but could hear me over it. My second call the recipient said that she could hear the fan noises, but not when I was quiet. She said that when I spoke I was louder than the fans.
“You sound kind of loud”Caller #2 Angela R.
Now that we know the microphones worked well…how was it with listening to music, podcast, etc. If properly fitted the sound is clear and crisp. It has really nice bass. If you are not a bass-y person, I would definitely recommend tuning it down. With the ANR turned on, I am unable to hear background noise while listening to my favorite tunes and podcasts. It’s a plus, but when I tested these out in my office I couldn’t hear the person who had walked in to talk to me. Well…maybe that’s not so bad <shrugs>. The Echo earbuds sound great for the price. That is $129.99. In comparison to my Soundcore Liberty Airs I do like the Echo earbuds better.
Disclosure: We all hear sound differently and I always recommend buying headphones/earbuds from stores that except returns. As with any earbuds fit is VERY important, Amazon includes multiple ear tips and a fitment test inside the Alexa app. We tried the fitment test (which Apple now includes with the Ear pod pros) and had mixed results. Overall, I think most people shouldn’t have a fitment problem using the silicon ear tips that are included. HOWEVER, If you do I bought the Comply memory foam tips and the work better for me than the silicon.
I would definitely recommend purchasing the Amazon Echo earbuds to test them out.
